Czechoslovakian Cookies

Always a favorite! And from ingredients always on hand. A good cookie for quick gift giving. Recipe came from one of the girl's Young Women teachers.
1 cup margarine (I use butter)
1 cup shortening--yes, shortening makes the texture
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
4 cups flour
  1. Cream margarine, shortening, and sugars.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  4. Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts.
  5. Roll in powdered sugar.
  6. Place on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for 11 minutes or so.
